The Art of Making Tatsat Kajal
Stage 1: Preparing the Medicated Wick
Our Ayurvedic Kajal is meticulously crafted, adhering to the ancient methods documented in "Sahasrayogam." Popular Chakshushya herbs, like Tulsi, Triphala, and Sahadevi, undergo a 21-day process. During this period, these herbs transform into a black medicated soot collected on a copper plate.
Stage 2: Creating the Medicated Kajal
The production technique reflects the traditional practices of our ancestors who created this essential eye beautifier. Depending on skin type, the Kajal lasts for 4-6 hours, with a potential for a smudge-free look.
Stage 3: Producing the Herbal Black Color
We utilize a time-honored Ayurvedic process to achieve the signature black hue of our Kajal. The popular Chakshushya herbs are again processed over 21 days, yielding black medicated soot. This ensures that Tatsat Kajal remains a safe skincare option free from harmful additives.
Step-by-Step Production
-
We create a herbal decoction from Holi basil leaves, Indian gooseberry, black myrobalan, bastard myrobalan, and purple fleabane. A cotton cloth is dipped in this concoction and sun-dried—a technique known as “Bhavana.” This step is repeated over 21 days to infuse the cloth with maximum herbal goodness, resulting in what we term the "Medicated Cloth."
-
The Medicated Cloth is used as a wick, dipped in pure castor oil as fuel. As it's ignited, the soot rises, collecting on a copper plate above. This black soot, derived from the cloth, is referred to as "Medicated Soot." We do not incorporate any lead or metallic colorants into our Kajal, ensuring quality control throughout the process.
-
Finally, the medicated soot is blended with Desi Cow's Ghee, pure castor oil, Almond oil, shea butter, cocoa butter, pachakarpoora, beeswax, and carnauba wax, culminating in our therapeutic-grade Kajal, also known as "Anjana" within Ayurvedic texts.
Caution: To maintain its integrity, keep away from direct sunlight or warm conditions to prevent melting.
